VALLEY CENTER, Calif. — Three people were shot to death and one was wounded when gunfire broke out near a casino Friday, authorities said.
The shooting occurred about 5 p.m. near Harrah’s Rincon Casino and Resort, said San Diego County Sheriff’s Lt. Edna Ito.
Ito said the four victims were airlifted to a hospital, and three of the wounded died. The condition of the fourth victim was not immediately known.
“We don’t know what started the shooting or who did it,” she said.
A portion of California 76 and part of North Lake Wohlford Road were closed as authorities investigated the shootings, said Steve Taylor, a dispatch supervisor for the California Highway Patrol.
A telephone call Friday night to the Rincon casino was not immediately returned.
The casino is about 45 miles northeast of downtown San Diego.
