Olympic Credibility Skates on Thin Ice

As much as I agree that Michelle Kwan is a great skater, the U.S. Figure Skating Committee was wrong and unfair in granting her a special tryout and subsequently bumping Emily Hughes off a spot on the Olympic team.

Injuries are part of sports, and athletes, Michelle Kwan no exception, have to learn to accept the consequences resulting from these injuries.

If winning the gold medal is the only concern of the committee, to the extent that they bend the rules for Michelle Kwan, what makes them so sure she can win it this time? She had been there twice and lost both times.
