Glendale’s Airport Gets Paved Runways

Glendale’s new $3-million Grand Central Air Terminal was dedicated before a crowd of 100,000. What had once been a simple dirt airstrip became the first airport on the West Coast with paved runways. During the ceremony, Los Angeles Mayor George E. Cryer and three others were unceremoniously knocked to the ground by a gush of air from a plane’s engine and tail. No one was seriously injured, and the festivities continued.
