Reid’s land deal speaks for itself

Re “A deal in the desert for Senator Reid?” Jan. 28
How does Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) believe he didn’t do anything wrong with that sweet land deal he got from his friend? One hundred and sixty acres below appraised value is some gift. What Reid did was just as wrong as what former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham (R-Rancho Santa Fe) did.

No one is shocked by Reid’s land deal. Ask most folks about the trust and respect they have for our leaders in Washington and you probably will learn that attorneys and used-car purveyors have moved ahead of legislators in the credibility category. However, we send these self-serving, elitist plutocrats to Washington with our votes, and we choose to reelect most of them at each election cycle. We are not paying attention, nor are we performing as thoughtful and involved citizens. We are getting the government we deserve.
