Plane runs off landing strip in Cleveland

A commuter plane carrying more than 70 people ran off the end of a snowy runway and pierced a fence after landing at the Cleveland airport, officials said. No injuries were reported.
The Embraer 170 came to a stop more than 150 feet past the end of the runway, a Cleveland Hopkins International Airport official said, with the engines partially buried in snow and the tip of the plane’s nose resting on a roadway that links the airport and perimeter buildings.
The cause was not yet known, but snow had reduced visibility to less than half a mile, authorities said.
The flight from Atlanta was operated by Shuttle America, a Delta Connection carrier. The airport was closed for about an hour and a half and some planes were diverted to other cities, officials said.
The affected runway was closed indefinitely as the National Transportation Safety Board began an investigation.
A plane that landed on the runway a few minutes earlier had reported no braking problems.
