Two California Highway Patrol officers suffered serious injuries Wednesday night when their cruiser was hit by another vehicle on the southbound Santa Ana Freeway in Downey, authorities said.
The collision occurred about 10 p.m. as the officers reportedly were investigating an accident north of Paramount Boulevard. The officers’ car apparently was flipped over by the impact.
Both officers were taken to hospitals for treatment of what were described as major injuries.
Three lanes of southbound traffic were closed during the investigation, backing up traffic to the Long Beach Freeway.
