Several carriers increase fares

Continental Airlines Inc., AMR Corp.’s American Airlines and Delta Air Lines Inc. raised fares on flights within the continental U.S. by $5 each way, a test of industry pricing power ahead of the summer travel season.
Northwest Airlines, which is operating under Chapter 11, also raised fares, said Neil Bainton, chief operating officer of airfare tracker FareCompare.com. He said UAL Corp.’s United Airlines and US Airways Group Inc. had not matched the fare hikes.
