Times open about staff cutbacks

Regarding “L.A. Times plans job cuts,” April 21:
It is remarkable how openly and in what detail you reported the development, because many media companies publish only good news about themselves.
As a German freelance journalist who is active in the German journalists association, I follow media trends on the other side of the Atlantic (in this case, the Pacific as well). We may soon face similar challenges here.
I do hope that good, fair and accurate journalism survives in these rocky times for American newspapers and wish you all the best.

Although it is sad to learn that The Times will cut as many as 150 jobs, might I suggest that one of those be the person who devised the bizarre upside-down reverse Sunday Opinion and Book Review sections?
