Big carriers ditch some fare hikes

The five largest U.S. carriers pulled back a $10 round-trip fare increase in domestic markets where they compete with discount rivals.
AMR Corp.’s American Airlines, UAL Corp.’s United Airlines, Delta Air Lines Inc., Continental Airlines Inc. and North- west Airlines Corp. acted after low-fare carriers such as Southwest Airlines Co. didn’t join them in raising prices.
