Decision delayed in chip dispute

A federal agency delayed for the second time issuing a remedy in a patent dispute between two rival wireless technology giants.

Irvine-based Broadcom Corp.’s proposed remedy would ban imports of cellphones containing semiconductor chips made by San Diego-based Qualcomm Inc., which could disrupt consumer, business and government use of mobile phones.

The U.S. International Trade Commission had said it would issue its remedy Friday, but a spokesman said late in the day that the agency had decided to wait until June 7. In April, the ITC postponed a ruling that had been set for May 8.
