Three people were killed and one other was critically injured Monday night in a three-vehicle accident in the Florence area near South Gate, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 8:25 p.m. near South Alameda Street and East Manchester Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer David Porter.
One of the vehicles apparently split in two, Porter said.
A county coroner’s spokesman said one person was pronounced dead at the scene and two others died at a hospital.
An investigation was underway and further details were not immediately available.
