Anthony Goods scored 10 straight points during one first-half stretch and finished with 23, and No. 23 Stanford beat UC Santa Barbara, 67-48, Sunday to win the Basketball Travelers Classic at Palo Alto.
Goods also grabbed six rebounds, and Robin Lopez added 12 points for the unbeaten Cardinal, off to its first 3-0 start since beginning 26-0 in 2003-04.
Alex Harris scored 18 points and Chris Devine added 14 points and eight rebounds for Santa Barbara, which is favored to win the Big West Conference.
Santa Barbara (2-1) started the second half with a 6-0 spurt to get within 35-30 before Stanford pulled away.
Western Michigan 70, Pepperdine 65 -- Joe Reitz had 14 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Broncos (1-1) in a World Vision International tournament game at Eugene, Ore.
Daniel Johnson scored 15 points to pace the Waves (0-2).
Pepperdine was up, 64-63, with 1:15 to play when Reitz made two free throws to give the Broncos the lead for good.
Cal State Fullerton 87, Cal State Los Angeles 67 -- Josh Akognon scored 24 of his career-high 31 points in the second half at Fullerton.
Frank Robinson added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Titans (2-0).
Christofer Hart had 23 points for the Golden Eagles. The Division II team considered the game an exhibition and the result will not count toward its record.
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 88, Northern Illinois 78 -- Trae Clark scored a game-high 22 points in a BTI Tipoff tournament game at Cedar Falls, Iowa. San Luis Obispo (1-2) took control with a 13-4 run midway through the second half. Ryan Paradise scored 21 points for Northern Illinois (0-3).
WOMEN
UC Santa Barbara 69, USC 63 (OT) -- In her first game since October 2006, junior Brynn Cameron led USC (0-1) in scoring with 18 points. Sha’Rae Gibbons’ 19 points led Santa Barbara (1-0). USC never trailed until overtime.
