Examine hunger in U.S.

Re “35.5 million report going hungry,” Nov. 15
A U.S. government report stated that 35.5 million Americans go hungry at one point or another during the calendar year. Based on the most recent U.S. population numbers, that’s 12.1% of our country, or one in 10 Americans, mostly women and children. This is the first time that it has held steady after five straight increases.
Does not this statistic deserve further exploration? Could The Times, much like its series on American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, put a face to this tragic report?
The people affected by this problem, and readers of The Times, deserve more than the regurgitation of a government report.
