North Carolina and Coach Butch Davis agreed Wednesday to a one-year contract extension through the 2014 season.
Davis also will receive a raise of $291,000 that will push his annual income to about $2.1 million. The raise and extension are expected to be approved next week by the university’s board of trustees.
Davis is 3-8 in his first season in Chapel Hill, but had been rumored as a possible candidate at Arkansas if the Razorbacks make a coaching change.
Oklahoma still doesn’t know if quarterback Sam Bradford, who suffered a concussion last week, will be able to play Saturday against Oklahoma State. Coach Bob Stoops said that Bradford would be re-evaluated today by team doctors. . . . Louisville Coach Steve Kragthorpe tried to end speculation that he was entertaining an offer from Southern Methodist, saying reports of his departure were “total fiction.” Said Kragthorpe: “I’m not going anyplace. I’m not interested in any other job. I’m committed to taking this team and this program back to the championship level.”
