Tebow stiff-arming the Heisman field

The latest odds for the Heisman Trophy have Florida sophomore quarterback Tim Tebow listed as a heavy favorite at 1-4 by Bodoglife.com, followed by Arkansas running back Darren McFadden at 4-1 and West Virginia quarterback Pat White at 5-1.

At Sportsbetting.com, Tebow’s odds are 1-3 with McFadden at 5-1 and White 8-1. Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel is at 4-1 and Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing is at 6-1.

Tebow, who has led Florida (8-3) to at least 30 points in nine games, has emerged as a Heisman front-runner with 26 touchdown passes and 20 rushing touchdowns.

He has completed 68.5% of his passes for 2,870 yards and rushed for 749 yards.

On Saturday, Tebow will showcase his talents against Florida State (7-4), which has been outscored, 75-34, in losing three consecutive games to the Gators.

Florida is listed as a 14-point favorite and the Gators are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games against teams with winning records.

But McFadden and White still have a shot to overtake Tebow if Seminoles linebacker Geno Hayes is correct in the prediction he made to reporters: “Tim Tebow is going down this week. Ya’ll put that down. That is our attitude.”

McFadden will get his chance today when Arkansas (7-4) plays at No. 1 Louisiana State (10-1). The Razorbacks are 13-point underdogs.

Two of college football’s hottest teams will face off tonight when undefeated Hawaii plays host to one-loss Boise State.

Oddsmakers have made the Warriors three-point favorites over the Broncos, but Hawaii has had trouble covering the spread this season. Despite a 10-0 record, the Warriors are 3-5 against the spread, including a dismal 1-4 over their last five games.

The Washington Wizards received some bad news this week: leading scorer Gilbert Arenas will be sidelined for at least three months after knee surgery.

But the Wizards are still a good bet based on their record against the spread. Washington won six of its first 11 games and covered seven times, including six in a row entering tonight’s game against Golden State.
