An Anaheim man was killed Friday when the Mercedes he was driving crashed into a telephone pole while speeding on Santa Ana Canyon Road.
Justin Simpkins, 20, was declared dead at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Anaheim about noon. A police officer and passersby had to cut his seat belt to pull him from the burning car between Lakeview Avenue and Royal Oak Drive, police said.
A passenger -- Simpkins’ brother -- was ejected from the car and was in critical but stable condition at another hospital.
Police believe Simpkins lost control of the car while speeding next to -- or possibly racing -- another vehicle. The second driver was being questioned.
