For Pete’s sake

T.J. Simers can pester Pete Carroll all he wants about NFL coaching vacancies, but Bill Plaschke’s Nov. 22 article about Ricky Rosas points out once again that Pete is exactly where he should be, coaching a perennial championship program with class and heart, and still caring a great deal about the many people who may cross his path, and teaching his players, by example, to do the same. And Ricky is an awesome inspiration to all of us as well.

As a USC alumnus, I am proud that Pete Carroll and the players have embraced and welcomed Ricky Rosas, a young man with a developmental disability, into the Trojan family.
However, as an advocate who works with developmentally disabled individuals, I am saddened that USC could not find this young man a paying job. People with disabilities have a 70% unemployment rate; those with developmental disabilities fare even worse, rarely gaining meaningful work.
USC, hire this young man for the work he does.

On Thanksgiving, USC did more than win a football game. It restored the Trojan nation. Now, as a die-hard Trojans fan, I have something entirely out of character to say: Go Bruins!
