The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences travels back 100 years for its “A Century Ago: The Films of 1907” at the Linwood Dunn Theater on Monday. Among the vintage works are “The Haunted Hotel,” the first film version of “Ben-Hur,” as well as the box office hits of the day “The Love Microbe,” “Liquid Electricity” and, from Pathe, “The Dancing Pig” (pictured). Michael Mortilla presents live musical accompaniment ( www.oscars.org). . . . The American Cinematheque’s Aero Theatre explores “The Hypnotic Films of Jean Painleve” tonight. The surrealist loner directed about 200 short films -- the majority dealing with aquatic fauna. The program features one of the first films to use underwater footage, 1934’s “The Sea Horse” (americancinematheque.com). . . . Los Angeles Film Forum presents “Films by Robert Nelson: A Retrospective, Part 1,” Sunday at the Echo Park Film Center. The San Francisco-born artist branched out to filmmaker in the 1960s and became one of the mainstays of the underground movement. The program features two of his best-known films, 1965’s “Oh Dem Watermelons” and 1967’s “The Great Blondino” ( www.lafilmforum.org).
