Residents of a Laguna Niguel apartment complex were evacuated Friday afternoon after land underneath their units shifted, Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials said.
Ground began to move Thursday, and geologists determined Friday that the Laguna Summit Apartments in the 30000 block of Niguel Road were unsafe. Sheriff’s deputies evacuated residents of 32 apartments.
No one was injured, said Sheriff’s Lt. Dan Dwyer.
The residents will be allowed to return today and Sunday to collect the rest of their belongings, Dwyer said.
It was unclear what caused the land to shift.
