A 17-year-old boy was arrested last week after allegedly pointing a laser at a Los Angeles Police Department helicopter flying above Van Nuys, the Federal Aviation Administration said Friday.
The incident occurred Saturday evening. The teen was arrested and booked on suspicion of shining a light into an aircraft, a felony punishable by up to three years in jail.
The boy has been released to his parents and has yet to be formally charged. The FAA said there have been about 120 incidents of people shining lasers at aircraft in the Los Angeles area in the last three years.
