* Toronto 6, at Boston 4: Vernon Wells broke out of a slump with a tiebreaking homer in the ninth to help the Blue Jays end the Red Sox’s four-game winning streak. Wells connected for a two-run shot after Hideki Okajima (3-2) hit leadoff batter Gregg Zaun with a pitch and John McDonald sacrificed.
* Cleveland 6, at Minnesota 2: The Twins’ reign atop the American League Central is all but over after being swept twice by the Indians in the last 10 games. Cleveland has won seven in a row against the defending division champions and 11 of 12 games overall. The Indians lead the Twins by 12 1/2 games.
* at New York 10, Seattle 2: Joba Chamberlain (1-0) pitched a 1-2-3 seventh in relief of Phil Hughes, throwing 100-mph heat to win in his first major league decision.
