Re “Mr. Blackwell” (Richard Sylvan Selzer), 1922-2008, Oct. 20
I knew Mr. Blackwell lived just blocks from me, but I had never seen him around town. Then, just after the earthquake of 1994, I was standing in line and there he was right behind me.
In horror I looked down at my clothing -- tennis shoes, jeans and a pullover sweater. Our eyes locked, and apologetically I said, “Oh no, it’s you, and look how I am dressed today!”
In the kindest of voices he replied, “Don’t worry dear, you look just lovely.”
