Twitter announces group messaging and video features for app

Twitter announced a pair of new features Tuesday that will allow users to send and receive private group messages and to use the Twitter app to record and edit videos.
The new video feature allows users to shoot 30 seconds of footage and edit it directly from the app. Users with iPhones will be able to upload videos from the phone’s camera roll as well.
In an expansion of direct messaging on Twitter, users will now be able to have private conversations with as many as 20 followers at the same time.
The new feature, writes product manager Jinen Kamdar in the company’s announcement, gives users “more options for how and with whom you communicate on Twitter.”
The San Francisco-based company launched in 2006 and has 284 million monthly active users.
