‘Girl Meets World’ renewed for a second season

Looks like the girl will get better acquainted with the world. Disney Channel has ordered a second season of “Girl Meets World.”
The follow-up to the popular ‘90s ABC family comedy “Boy Meets World” will begin production on a second season in November in Los Angeles.
The series picked up with Cory and Topanga -- the TGIF royal couple at the center of the original series -- as parents, with the adventures and misadventures, this time around, centered on their 13-year-old daughter named Riley (Rowan Blanchard).
When news first broke that the series was in the works, those who grew up with the Friday staple had a social media freakout after learning original stars Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel would reprise their roles as Cory and Topanga. (Michael Jacobs, who created “Boy Meets World,” returned to helm the series, along with April Kelly.)
All the nostalgic hubbub, along with a curious new generation, helped the series premiere strong to 5.2 million viewers. Since its June 27 premiere, the comedy has ranked as the top series among kids and tweens.
“The series swiftly became a favorite of kids and their parents, many of whom grew up with ‘Boy Meets World,’” sad Adam Bonnett, executive vice president of original programming at Disney Channels Worldwide, in a statement. “We’re looking forward to watching Riley Matthews and Maya Hart make the world their own, as Cory and Topanga teach them life lessons along the way.”
“Girl Meets World” is in the midst of its 20-episode freshman season.
