Say it with serotonin

Move over smiley face: If there’s a modern symbol for happiness, in this molecular age it’s the brain chemical serotonin, says the sales blurb on “Made With Molecules,” an online jewelry store with a somewhat nerdy bent.

The site sells necklaces in the shape of the serotonin molecule: “a thoughtful gift for someone you wish happiness.”

“Serotonin molecules interact with receptors in the brain to induce feelings of happiness, satisfaction and relaxation,” the site reminds us. (It’s at https://www.madewithmolecules.com/.) Not your thing? Why not a set of earrings based on the structure of different brain chemicals? (“Display your favorite neurotransmitters close to your brain!”) Or, for him, some boxer shorts covered with testosterone molecules — for that extra confidence boost when out on a date, vying for a promotion or at a job interview.
