LAPD Chief Charlie Beck held a news conference Friday afternoon to announce that the two men, Louie Sanchez, 29, and Marvin Norwood, 30, have been charged with assault and mayhem in connection with the attack in a Dodger Stadium parking lot. Story (Bob Chamberlin / Los Angeles Times)

Soledad Gonzalez, the mother of original suspect Giovanni Ramirez, is interviewed by Gigi Graciette. Police had insisted for two months that Ramirez was the assailant, but were unable to gather enough evidence to tie him to the crime.

Ramirez’s family is criticizing what they say was a rush to judgment by the LAPD. “If they didn’t have any proof, why did they
say he’s the suspect?” said his mother, Soledad Gonzalez.
