Motorist badly hurt when pickup truck falls 50 feet off freeway in San Diego

The driver of a pickup truck suffered major injuries Sunday afternoon when his truck launched off a freeway onramp and crashed into a restaurant parking lot 50 feet below, according to the San Diego Fire & Rescue Department.
Firefighters used extraction tools to pry the driver from the crumpled wreckage of his Ford F-350. He was conscious when taken to a local hospital with possible neck and back trauma.
The incident occurred on the transition ramp from westbound Interstate 8 to northbound Interstate 805 in Mission Valley.
The pickup truck went over the guardrail and struck the back wall of a Dave & Buster’s restaurant before landing upright in the parking lot.
The driver was the only person injured, and restaurant patrons were apparently unaware of the incident.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating information from witnesses that the pickup truck may have spun out when it was struck from behind by a sport-utility vehicle that continued northbound.
