A 7-year-old Adelanto boy died in an apparent accidental shooting Thursday, and his father was arrested early Friday.
Julio Cervantes Sr., 40, was taken into custody about 3:30 a.m. on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the fatal shooting of his son, Daniel, the night before, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
It is unclear how the shooting occurred.
But sheriff’s officials said they investigated the case throughout the night.
A family member called authorities at 4:54 p.m. Thursday to report an accidental shooting at the home in the 18000 block of Bellflower Street. Deputies and ambulance crew arrived to find Daniel shot.
Family members and an ambulance crew tried to save the boy. He was taken to Victor Valley Global Medical Center, where he died just before 6 p.m.
