A 25-year-old man was arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI after authorities say he crashed into a Lancaster home and fatally struck a woman sleeping in her bed.
Authorities say Aaron Daniel Benson, 25, was driving a silver Toyota Tacoma west on Avenue J-12 about 11 p.m. Sunday when he collided with several vehicles parked on both sides of the street.
He then crashed into a home, striking a woman, whom investigators found in her bed, underneath the truck.
“Very tragic,” said Lt. Paul Pfrehm of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified the victim Monday morning only as a 71-year-old woman from Lancaster. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel.
Sheriff’s officials say the woman was the only person inside the home at the time of the crash.
Benson was arrested and booked at the Lancaster sheriff’s station for vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said. He was being held in lieu of $1-million bail.
