Fuel tanker truck driver arrested after slow-speed chase

A tanker truck driver stopped at every light and drove below the speed limit but managed to break at least one law Sunday night – he didn’t stop for authorities.
Law enforcement officials say the driver, Jose Corrales, led deputies on the slow-moving pursuit through Paramount.
He allegedly stole the empty fuel tanker from a trucking company in the 6800 block of Rosecrans Avenue and was spotted at about 10:56 p.m. by deputies, said Lt. Alicia Malone of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Corrales, 24, refused to stop for deputies, even though he did yield for red lights during the pursuit.
The four-minute pursuit went on for two miles and reached speeds of 30 mph, Malone said.
But that was mostly due to Corrales’ driving skills.
“Apparently, he has never driven one of those before,” she said.
Corrales finally stopped at Rosecrans Avenue and Paramount Boulevard.
He was arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft and evading police, she said.
