Homicide detectives investigate shootings in South L.A., Lancaster

Detectives from the Los Angeles County sheriff’s homicide bureau are investigating the unrelated fatal shootings of young men overnight in Lancaster and South Los Angeles.
The South L.A. victim was shot multiple times in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood shortly after 1 a.m., according to a department press release The man, described as in his early 20s, was pronounced dead at a local hospital. He was not identified.
Witnesses told deputies they saw a tan vehicle leaving the 8600 block of Mary Avenue at the time of the shooting, but there were no suspects several hours into the investigation, according to the release.
In the Lancaster shooting, a man in his early 20s was gunned down in a parking lot in the 600 block of East Avenue H14 shortly after 10:30 p.m. Friday. He was shot mulitple times and pronounced dead at the scene, according to a department press release.
Witnesses told detectives the assailant was possibly driving a black pickup truck, according to the release. The victim was not identified.
