A man found dead near the water’s edge on Venice Beach has been identified as a 61-year-old Los Angeles resident.
The man, Chong Nam Kwak, was found at about 1:50 p.m. Monday near the 5000 block of Ocean Front Walk in Marina Del Rey, said Lt. John Kades of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. A cause of death has not been determined.
After a passerby on the beach spotted Kwak lying on the sand, at least one person performed CPR on him, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials, but they were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kades said investigators recovered a 6-foot-long inflatable boat near Kwak. But the Sheriff’s Department said it was unclear if the empty boat belonged to Kwak.
