Miley Cyrus home burglar pleads no contest, faces 2 years in prison

A 22-year-old man has pleaded no contest to breaking into pop star Miley Cyrus’ home in Toluca Lake and stealing a large amount of belongings, prosecutors said.

Rusty Edward Sellner of Newbury Park made the plea to one felony count of first-degree residential burglary.

Prosecutors said Sellner broke into the “Wrecking Ball” singer’s home Dec. 16 and stole property belonging to her and her brother. Officers from LAPD’s North Hollywood division arrested him.

Sellner was previously convicted of burglary and evading arrest in Ventura County.

Now, Sellner is expected to be sentenced to two years in state prison -- on April Fool’s Day.

And that is no joke.

As part of a plea, prosecutors dropped charges against Sellner of receiving stolen property and grand theft. He could have received up to seven years and eight months if convicted on those charges.

Cyrus’ home had been burglarized at least twice before.

In June, Los Angeles police arrested an Arizona couple on suspicion of burglarizing the singer’s home and stealing her white, four-door Maserati, officials said. The couple were accused of stealing jewelry, purses and handbags valued at thousands of dollars.

Nearly all of the belongings were recovered by detectives, officials said. Police found Cyrus’ stolen 2014 Maserati Quattroporte abandoned on a street in Simi Valley.

The couple, Tylor Morgan Scott, 19, and Naomi Charles, 21, took a plea deal, district attorney spokesman Ricardo Santiago said.

Scott was sentenced to five years in state prison and Charles got a year in county jail and four years’ probation.
