Authorities responding to reports of a possible break-in at a Los Angeles County home extinguished a small fire and then discovered more than 1,000 marijuana plants growing inside.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Byron Ward says officials received a call late Saturday reporting a possible burglary at the home in Diamond Bar.
Ward says deputies found no intruder, but saw smoke billowing from the second floor. Firefighters quickly extinguished a small blaze, which investigators say may have been sparked by an electrical malfunction.
Authorities found the home had been set up as an elaborate indoor pot-growing operation.
The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported Sunday that nobody was at the home and no suspects are in custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
