Sheriff’s detectives assisting in investigation of toddler’s death

Los Angeles County sheriff’s homicide detectives are assisting local police in investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy who was discovered not breathing early Sunday in his Signal Hill home, according to police
Officers and paramedics responded to the boy’s home in the 2300 block of Lewis Avenue about 5:40 a.m., authorities said. The toddler was given CPR and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police called for assistance from sheriff’s homicide detectives to investigate the circumstances surrounding the toddler’s death, authorities said. Detectives were at the home and the hospital Sunday morning. The boy’s name hasn’t been released.
The Los Angeles County coroner’s office would determine the cause of death, said sheriff’s Det. Amber Smith. No arrests have been made, she said.
The boy lived with his mother, her boyfriend and other family members, Smith said.
