A young boy was struck and killed by a motorist in Santa Ana Saturday night after he wandered away from his home and onto the street, police said.
The incident occurred about 10 p.m. in the 800 block of New Hope Street, said Sgt. Lorenzo Carrillo. The unidentified toddler was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.
The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with police, Carrillo said.
It was unclear how the child got out of his residence, which was about a block away, he said.
