JIM DE BOOM -- Community & Clubs

CHANGING LOCATION: In November, the Balboa Bay Club began a

$55-million expansion program, which has forced several community groups

to find a new meeting location. The Rotary Club of Newport Beach Sunrise

has met at 7:30 a.m. Tuesdays year-round at the Bay Club for years.

Rotary Club President Ron Millar said after a lengthy search a new

meeting location has been found at the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum’s

Riverboat Restaurant, beginning this Tuesday at 7:30 a.m.

The 70-member Commodores Club of the Newport Harbor Chamber of

Commerce, which has met twice a month at the Bay Club for decades, is

also moving its meetings to the Riverboat Restaurant.

BUSY CLUB: In addition to participating in traditional holiday service

club activities and with their families, members of the Costa Mesa

Kiwanis Club spent four days between Christmas and New Year’s Day as

volunteers at the Costa Mesa High School Girls Basketball Winter Classic.

Finding extra time in their holiday schedule were George Cote, Bruce

Coye, Wayne Crawford, John Dalenta, Flynn Loback, Ed McFarland, Charlie

Markel, Jim Miller, Fred Owens, Joe Panarisi, Pete Peterson, Quentin

Quinn, John Richards, Jim Schabarum, Don Stevens, Fran Ursini and Stuart

Warrick.

From all accounts, it was a successful tournament and the help of the

Costa Mesa Kiwanis Club was greatly appreciated.

LOOKING FOR GIFTS: Newport-Balboa Rotary Club member Dr. Millard

MacAdam will lead a group of four non-Rotarian young adults to Australia

for a monthlong stay in March with Australian Rotarians and their

families as they explore as they explore Australian culture, family life

and various professions. MacAdam is seeking appropriate gifts for the

Rotary families hosting the group study exchange team members. They need

gifts for adults and children.

If your company has gifts such as pocket calculators, quality pens,

CDs, cassette tapes, T-shirts and caps left over from the Christmas

season and would like some recognition in Australia, call MacAdam at

(949) 644-5552. He will arrange for a pick up of the items.

MacAdam and the team members will deliver friendship gifts to the

Rotarians and their families in Australia on behalf the Newport-Balboa

Rotary Club and businesses in the Newport-Mesa community.

WORTH REPEATING: From the Newport Beach-Corona del Mar Kiwanis Club

newsletter Scuttlebutt: “For every action, there is an equal and opposite

government program.”
