Two AYSO Region 117 teams squared off last weekend for the Area 11-K
Tournament’s Silver Division crown, and Quicksilver emerged with the
title following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Silver Stars on a wet,
rainy field.
Alec Pinto set up the game’s lone score, a first period goal by Danny
Thibodeaux. The play of goalie Kyle Jenkins, who made several key saves,
Kevin Lewis, Colin Carrol, Matt McCoy and Cody Reeves, were instrumental
in the win. Defensive pressure applied by Jimmy Miller, Kris Sauber and
Sam Mikulak was also key.
Quicksilver reached the title match by beating Region 143, 3-1, behind the two goals by Tanner Phillips and one by Trevor Carberry. Quicksilver
went 8-0 in the tournament, and 16-1 overall this season, outscoring its
opponents, 55-5.

tournament play after dropping a 3-1 match to Region 117. Midfielders Tyler Chapman, Nick Abraham and Jeff Meigs turned in strong performances,
as did forward Greg Weaver.
H.B. Ugly began the weekend with a 6-0 rout of Region 143, getting its first two goals off corner kicks from Justin De Marco to Greg Davis. Josh
Sabillion also scored twice, and Shane Gardner and Andy Smith each scored
once. H.B. Ugly ended the tournament by outscoring its 10 opponents,
32-10. The defensive play of Casey Sheridan, Brian Adsit, Kyle Campana
and Kevin Danielson helped goalie Danny Rey allow an average of just one

GIRLS’ UNDER-10 DIVISION
The Gold & Black Attack Gold All-star team out of Region 117 finished
in second place in the Area 11-K Tournament following a tie breaking
shootout win over Region 55, and a 2-0 win over Region 56.
Samantha Strom scored both goals in the 2-0 win, the first coming off
a Joanna Steinhaus feed. The second came on a breakaway up the left side
of the field. Goalie Maya Sanders recorded the shut out, getting key help
from defenders Jessica Brown, Kaleigh Budd, Ariane Hebrard, Chelsee Laine
and Caitlin MacKenzie.
A tie breaking shootout with Region 5 was required to determine second
and third place in the division. Hebrard, replacing the injured Sanders
in the net, deflected two of the four remaining shot attempts by Region
5, with the other two sailing wide. Budd scored the first goal for the
Attack with a strong punch into the corner of the net and Hebrard added a
goal as the Attack (5-3-2 in All-star play) pulled out a 2-1 decision.
