Retail Roundup

Top o’ the mornin’ to ye. We here at Retail Roundup seem to have the

luck of the Irish. So in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, coming Saturday for

all of you who do not mark their days by the receipt of Hallmark cards,

we plan to fill the next few inches of copy with all things relating to

green.

Green, as in cash, is what the people at Discovery Shop in Corona del

Mar hope to get Saturday when shoppers invade for a taste of Irish hors

d’oeuvres, beer tasting, live music and more. Offering name-brand

clothing, jewelry, antiques, shoes, pottery, rugs and more, the shop is

owned and operated by the American Cancer Society. You can probably find

something green to wear there.

All of the proceeds from sales go to help the society in its fight

against all forms of cancer. The Discovery Shop’s St. Patrick’s Day event

will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the store, 2600 E. Coast

Highway, Corona del Mar. For information, call (949) 640-4777.

You can make ordinary whipped cream green by just adding some food

coloring -- or if you want to be fancy-schmantsy, you can buy a new

product by the makers of Cake Mate called “Color Tips.” These strange

items are preloaded plastic tips that fit on top of the nozzle of a can

of aerosol whipped cream, making the edges of the cream green. We think

this was invented by a harried mom who needed a fast way to make gelatin

look festive. Who else would use this stuff?

There’s green in the logo of Clairol’s Herbal Essences. The shampoo

people with the wildly oversexed commercials dropped us a line just to

let us know that the singing group 98 Degrees will now be appearing in

their ads. “We’re thrilled to have 98 Degrees on board,” they enthuse. We

just want to know if they’ll be singing about their “urge to herbal” in

four-part harmony.
