Prep Softball: Tars shut out Mesa

NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High’s Sabrina Couch threw a
two-hitter to lead the Sailors’ softball team to a 5-0 win over visiting
Costa Mesa.
Tars sophomore Amanda Campbell pounded a two-run double in the first
inning, while Shelby Crisp and Athena Vasquez finished with two hits
each.
Mesa’s Ann Marie Topps spoiled Couch’s no-hitter in the sixth inning
with one out. Katy Renish followed Topps with a single of her own.
Harbor (8-6) will host Santiago in a doubleheader Saturday, while Mesa
(5-4-1) hosts Capistrano Valley Christian today.
