Softball: Sailors edged by Irvine

NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Harbor High softball put forth its best
effort of the season, according to Coach Jess Martinson, but came up a
run short to visiting Irvine, 1-0, Thursday in Sea View League action.
“Without a doubt, it was the best effort this team has done this
year,” Martinson said. “I was very proud of what I saw out there.”
The Sailors (9-12, 0-5 in league) kept the game scoreless with the
Vaqueros until the eighth inning, when an unearned run proved to be the
difference.
Bailey Beardon, Shelby Crisp and Brianne Parmeter had the Sailors’
lone hits, while Stephanie Ciralli reached base twice on walks.
Newport will play at Laguna Hills Tuesday, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
