Boys volleyball: CdM tops Trojans

IRVINE - The Corona del Mar High boys volleyball team moved one
step closer to at least sharing the Pacific Coast League championship,
defeating host University, 15-9, 15-13, 13-15, 15-9, Tuesday.
The Sea Kings (11-5, 8-1 in league) entered the day tied with
Northwood for first place and now have one league match remaining,
Thursday at 3:15 against visiting Costa Mesa.
CdM, ranked No. 3 in CIF Southern Section Division IV, was led by
senior setter Evan Burden’s 65 assists and 15 digs.
Charlie Alshuler (17 kills and 15 digs), John Grod (16 kills and 22
digs), Forrest Mack (16 kills and five blocks) and Brian Gallagher (17
kills) also contributed heavily for the winners, who host Back Bay rival
Newport Harbor Friday at 6:30 p.m.
