A’s beat D-backs, 14-1, claim first half title

In a one-game playoff battle to determine the first half Majors
Division champion of Huntington Valley Little League, the A’s needed just
four innings as they disposed of the Diamondbacks, 14-1.
A potent hitting attack resulted in Pablo McBeth going 4 for 4 with
four RBI, Kevin Oakley had three singles and three RBI, Cody Walker,
Brian Wiktorshi and Kyle Ammons each had two hits, Alex Barnes and Danny
Watt each had a hit and an RBI, Fred Thomas singled and Race Parmenter
helped his pitching cause with a double, single and four RBI.
Parmenter threw all four innings, striking out eight.
Andy Scott Webster singled twice and scored the Diamondbacks’ lone run
on Eddie Clark’s RBI single.
In other games:
A’s 6, Mariners 5
Brian Wiktorshi’s RBI single - his second hit of the game - drove in
the winning run in the seventh inning to lift the A’s. McBeth went 3 for
4, and Parmenter homered and singled with three RBI. Alex Barnes threw
five innings, giving up three hits while striking out 11, and Wiktorshi threw the final two innings, striking out three without allowing a hit.
Austin Ray doubled and had two RBI to lead the Mariners.
Diamondbacks 15, Angels 8
James Hensley tripled and singled with two RBI, Dalton Heikka singled
twice and doubled, Chase Barnes doubled twice with two RBI and Clayton
Prestridge and Travis Camerena each singled twice for the D-backs. For
the Angels, Jimmy Queen singled twice, tripled and walked, Kirk Hodgman
singled and tripled, and Daris Douty doubled.
White Sox 13, Rangers 0
White Sox pitchers Michael Mendez, Justin Thompson and Drew Johnson
struck out six, walked two and allowed a single hit in this four inning
affair. Mendez also tripled and doubled, and Michael Bogard singled
twice. Shawn Stiffler singled for the Rangers.
MINOR A DIVISION
Cardinals 20, Indians 9
Dave Folger had three singles, Ryan Little singled twice, Robert
McKinley singled and doubled, Aaron Schiller tripled and Anthony
Hainsworth and Nick Mazzone doubled as the first half champion Cardinals
began the second half of play on a winning note. Brayden Kent went 4 for
4 with two doubles, Jeremy Carrillo singled three times and Alex Holtz
singled twice for the Indians.
Mets 20, Yankees 10
Drew Baumann doubled and singled twice, and Jake Gordon, Sean Reimer
and Jacob Augeri each singled twice for the Mets; Matt Jacinto and Steve
Shamoo both singled and doubled and Matt Reza had two hits for the
Yankees.
Marlins 6, Dodgers 2
Tanner Phillips singled three times, Michael Chairez doubled twice and
pitchers Josh Herrera, Phillips and Barry Luke combined to strike out 13,
to lead the Marlins. John Christopoulos doubled for the Dodgers.
MINOR B DIVISION
Marlins 7, White Sox 4
The Marlins, first half winners of the division, opened the second
half of league play with a win as Nic Hanson singled twice with an RBI,
Alex Talbert doubled with two RBI, Alan Shideler singled twice, Richard
Varalla doubled, and pitchers Shideler, Ryan Christopher and Hanson
combined to strike out 11. The White Sox’s Chris Gillen had two singles,
Jake Little singled with an RBI, and Michael Pellegrino, in addition to
getting a single and two RBI, pitched three innings, giving up one hit,
no runs, with seven strikeouts.
Cardinals 11, Cubs 5
Houston Hill struck out eight in three innings pitched and also
singled for the Cardinals; Scott Martin hit a home run and double with
two RBI for the Cubs.
