Baseball: Three Lions named to All-GSAC team

Three members of the Vanguard University baseball team, seniors
Anthony Walker and Jeremy Isherwood and sophomore Chad Chop were named to
the All-Golden State Athletic Conference team.
Walker led all VU pitchers with a 9-4 record and a 4.28 earned run
average. His nine wins were the most by a VU pitcher since Bryce Primm
won 10 games in 1997.
Walker also led the team with 76 strikeouts in 107 1/3 innings pitched
this season. At the plate, he also chipped in 43 hits, 32 runs and three
home runs.
Ishwerwood started 48 games in the Lions’ infield and batted .373 with
62 hits and 46 runs scored. He was named All-GSAC as a third baseman.
Chop, played first base for the Lions and led the team with a .416
batting average. He recorded team highs in hits (77), runs scored (53)
and doubled (20) and started in all 49 games this year. He also pitched
31 innings in eight appearances for the Lions.
All three are first-time All-GSAC selections.
