Equestrian: Warmington shines
Balboa resident Molly Warmington, a Newport Harbor High product and
University of San Diego senior, earned her first Grand Prix show jumping
competition victory by topping the 27-rider field at the Grand Prix of
Bakersfield, held last month at the Kern County Fairgrounds.
Warmington, riding California-bred thoroughbred Mr. Pacific, was one
of 13 competitors to complete a perfect round, jumping over 5-foot wide
fences ranging from 4-6 to 5-0 high.
Those 13 riders then competed on a shorter course, a run which
Warmington completed in the fastest time to earn the victory.
The April 22 event featured riders who have represented the United
States in international competition.
The Grand Prix class, which typically features 16 jumps, is the highest level of competition in show jumping.
Warmington is trained by Ginnie Bryant at the Equites Riding Club in
San Juan Capistrano.
