NBLL Majors: Reds duo no-hits the Mariners

NEWPORT BEACH - Pitchers Blaine Neilsen and Jake Lemmerman combined
to toss a no-hitter to lead the Reds over the Mariners, 8-1 in Newport
Beach Little League action Monday.
The Reds jumped ahead thanks to a six-run third inning. Tyler Ellis,
Andrew Silva, Lemmerman, Neilsen, Brett Bartlett and Ryan Kent provided
the offensive punch in the third.
The Mariners scored their lone run in the sixth inning when Nick
Freeman scored on an error.
In other Majors Division action:
Cardinals win two: The Cardinals used strong pitching to pull out two
3-1 decisions over the Angels and Dodgers.
In Saturday’s game with the Angels, William O’Brien pitched a complete
game, allowing only one unearned run, while the Cards’ offense was led by
Aaron Northcraft, who had a hit and an RBI.
James Petrilli added a key double, while Colin Wigely contributed a
hit for the Cards, while Tyler Brady and Travis Sorenson each had strong
defensive performances.
The Angels were led by Scott Boras, who had a double and the pitching
of Andy Rovzar and Barrett Hendrickson.
In Monday’s game with the Dodgers, Sam Stafford pitched a
complete-game, one-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Wigely had two hits and an RBI, while Ryan Telles added a double and
an RBI.
Eric Berkley led the Cardinals’ defense with a nice catch in center
field, while John Yesh also added some five glove work.
The Dodgers were led by pitcher Nick Pike, who threw two scoreless
innings.
Mariners 4, Giants 1 - Willie Harrison returned from the disabled list
to pitch three strong innings to earn the win for the Mariners in first
round playoff action.
Tom Solis pitched three strong innings to get the save for the M’s,
while Bobbie Manning came through with two hits and a run scored.
Nick Freeman contributed a hit and scored a run, while he and Manning
came through with strong defense.
For the Giants, Danny Moskovits and Philip Bannan each pitched well,
while Mark Roudanez scored the team’s lone run.
In AAA Division action:
Mariners 10, Red Sox 6 - Eric Hansen had two hits and scored two runs
to lead the Mariners over the Red Sox, May 16.
Mariner pitchers Hunter Alder pitched four strong innings, while
Michelle Zucker shut down the Red Sox offense in the final two innings.
Alder added a key double and triple at the plate, while Kirk MacDonald
and Zak Maurer-Erickson each had two hits.
Tommy Colton, Sean Tokuyama and Phillip Peterson each added clutch
hits for the M’s.
The Red Sox had a strong pitching performance by James Cunningham, who
struck out five over three innings. Stephan Coleman and William Ham each
ripped doubles, while Dylan Davis, John Lockhard and Michael Hayde each
added key hits.
The Red Sox defense was led by Matt Wheatley, Andrew Fulcher and Matt
Steinberg.
Cardinals 6, Braves 5 - The Braves jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the
Cardinals rallied to win the first round playoff matchup.
After Robert Boyd walked for the Cards, clutch hitting by Jake
Killian, Camden Nicholson, Bret Weinberger, Matt Fay, Doug Kelly and
Grant Keligian put the Cardinals up for good. Nicholson pitched the final
two innings and struck out five of the last six batters he faced.
The Braves were led by strong pitching from Kyle Hill and timely
hitting by Danny Baker, Dillon Campbell and Tyler Haly.
Mets 13, Braves 3 - Jeff Jones had a triple and a grand slam to lead
the Mets to victory.
Strong Mets defense was sparked by Beau Attayah, Brian Hurst and Brad
Hess, while Ronnie Sadler and Matt Morris each added big hits.
Angels 5, Yankees 4 - Trailing 4-0, the Angels stormed back with five
runs in the final three innings to prevail in a playoff elimination game
Monday.
Guy Sutherland and Max Voetner each had key RBI hits in the fourth
inning to score Parker Stone and Conner Bannon, while Alex Shafnitz
contributed stellar defensive work.
In the sixth and final inning, Tennyson Mitchell singled, went to
second on a grounder by Scott Eskew and scored on an RBI single by Taylor
Stone. Andrew Mason walked and Parker Stone ended the game with a two-run
double.
Randell Nelson, Eric Mutzke and Kolfax Selby added to the Angels’
defensive effort.
The Yankees were led by Ryan Spitzer, Chase Ross, Chase Stark and
Andrew Watt.
Mets 9, Angels 8 - The Mets needed eight innings, but they managed to
pull out a thrilling win over the Angels.
Cory Donavan, Timmy Winning, Brad Hess, Alex Swigert, Matt Morris,
Beau Attayah, Jeff Jones and Benjamin Noe scored runs for the Mets, while
Jones and Morris each pitched well.
The Angels were led by strong pitching from Taylor Stone and Parker
Stone.
Dodgers 10, Diamondbacks 6 - Reed Zachman had two hits and three runs
scored to lead the Dodgers to a playoff victory.
Pitcher Michael Bloom struck out nine over four innings and collected
a triple and single at the plate.
Grant Jackson reached base three times and played six strong innings
behind the plate for the Dodgers, while John Doering pitched the final
two innings to preserve the win.
The Diamondbacks were led by Merret Scott’s two hits and three runs
scored and Kendall Pick’s two key hits. Scott and Mason Sayer each
pitched effectively.
In AA Division action:
Red Sox 12, Mariners 8 - Will Morrow, Parker Werline, J.B. Salem, Josh
Harrison and Andrew Conger each had key hits to lead the Red Sox.
Blake Thomsen and Weston Nielsen each added two hits, while Brennan
Anderson, Jackie Anderson and Peter Markel each scored for the Red Sox.
For the Mariners, Doug Watt had three hits, while Alex Mainthow and
Mitch Gardner had two hits apiece and Matt Ruiz, John Christian, Alex
Pastre and Zac Cabin added single hits.
Red Sox 14, Mets 6 - In the first round of the playoffs, the Red Sox
used a strong offensive performance from Parker Werline (3 for 3) to beat
the Mets.
J.B. Salem, Josh Harrison, Blake Thomsen, Peter Markel and Jackie
Anderson each contributed hits for the Red Sox, while Brennan Anderson
and Weston Nielsen scored runs. Will Morrow providing excellent defense.
