Police are investigating a rash of car burglaries that occurred over
the weekend at a Costa Mesa apartment complex on Peterson Place.
After responding to an initial call from a woman Saturday in the 2700
block of Peterson Place, an investigating officer noticed four other
vehicles with their windows broken out, a police report said.
A 59-year-old woman also reported a vehicle burglary from the same
address Friday.
In each case, the windows were shattered with an unknown object except
for one lucky resident whose car was spared. Police noticed, however,
that the rubber trim around her window was ripped out and a 2-inch
scratch was visible on the driver’s side door.
The owners of the six vehicles reported losses of cash, CDs, credit
cards, jewelry, clothing and birthday presents, the report said. The
total loss was about $346, police said.
The report noted that the burglarized cars were parked next to each
other.
