BUCK GULLY PUMP STATION
The City Council will consider hiring an engineering firm to develop
plans and specifications to refurbish the Buck Gully Wastewater Pump
Station, near Little Corona Beach off Ocean Boulevard.
Officials say the 50-year-old station has operated beyond its design
life and that the pumps are worn out and obsolete. Also, many of the
components at the station need to be upgraded to meet current
state-mandated codes and standards. The Keith Cos. will be paid $86,065
for the job.
WHAT TO EXPECT: Council members are expected to accept the staff
recommendation and hire the firm to redo the old Buck Gully pump station.
DONATION OF CITY PROPERTY
Also before the council tonight will be a proposal to donate surplus
computers and equipment to Share Our Selves in Costa Mesa
The value of the property -- including Dell computers, monitors,
filing cabinets, printers and chairs -- is believed to be about $750.
WHAT TO EXPECT: The council is expected to vote in favor of
donating the property to Share Our Selves.
WATER-QUALITY TESTING
The council will consider entering into a deal with the UC system to
complete tests of the waters feeding into Newport Harbor.
This testing, which is expecting to cost $36,179, will build on a
series of testing during the past summers to determine where bacteria is
entering the harbor. Results will be made public, possibly in October.
The cost is slightly more than originally planned because UC officials
did not waive overhead charges.
WHAT TO EXPECT: The council is expected to approve the testing.
