COSTA MESA - Matt Hess gave the Vanguard University men’s soccer
team a hat trick and The Golden State Athletic Conference made him its
GSAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.
Hess, who is in his first season at Vanguard, earned Lion of the Week
laurels last week, but did not stop there.
This past weekend as the Lions hosted the Vanguard University Soccer
Classic, he helped propel his team to two more victories.
Hess scored his hat trick to lead the Lions to a 3-0 victory in the VU
Soccer Classic.
The freshman forward broke open a scoreless tie seconds into the
second half with his fifth goal of the season.
Fourteen minutes later he took a pass from senior Matt Swift and
converted it into a 2-0 lead for the Lions. Finally, with less than four
minutes to play, Hess completed his first collegiate hat trick with goal
number three.
Vanguard finished the VU Soccer Classic 2-0, recording back-to-back
shutouts, and have won three consecutive games.
Hess currently leads the Lions with seven goals in eight games this
season.
Vanguard has improved to 3-4-1 overall and will begin GSAC play next
week.
