Late goal leads to win

Logan Bechtold scored the last of his match-best three goals with 3:20 left on the clock Monday to break a tie score and send the Beach Boys on to a 3-2 victory over Fusion in Smythe Division action at Coast 2 Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.

Bechtold scored his first goal in the opening period to give his team a 1-0 lead, then scored twice in the third period.

His two third-period goals were set up by Kevin Ozeretny.

Jadin Press recorded 12 saves.

Fusion’s goals came courtesy of Aaron Maccabi and James Johnson. Ricky Meyer had a solo assist, and Colin Reyes and Nick Callanan were also credited with an assist.

Chris Hernandez had 29 saves.

In other Smythe Division action:

Swat 6, Predators 5

Swat outscored the Predators 2-1 in an overtime shootout to get the win.

In Wales Division action:

Bandits 3, Cyclones 1

The Bandits scored all three of their goals in the second period to overcome a 1-0 deficit and the Cyclones.

Ryan Dixon scored off a double-assist between Bryan Bennett and Alex Kowalski to give the Cyclones their 1-0 lead. In the second period, Mark Johnson scored all three goals to give the Bandits their 3-1 advantage.

Alex Kemp had an assist and Blake Miller 32 saves for the Bandits.

Jack Miller had 21 saves for the Cyclones.

Red Wings 4, Militia 3

Paul Wirth’s unassisted goal early in the third period broke a tie and lifted the Red Wings past the Militia.

Ethan Higbee scored the first Red Wings goal and Brandon White the next two, the second of which tied the score at 3-3 in the second period.

Gregory Hancock had two assists, Wirth and White one assist each, and Jessica Quinones finished with 20 saves.

Jake Rennison scored two goals to lead the Militia and Ian Marzolf had 30 saves.

Thrashers 4, Mudcats 3

Scott Riley scored the only goal in an overtime shootout to get the Thrashers past the Mudcats.

Zac Witt scored twice, Luke Buntich once and Eric Grant had 29 saves for the Thrashers.

Matthew Bennett, Matthew Bozanich and Matt Schnautz scored goals for the Mudcats.

Casidhe Kunichika had 19 saves.
